Teach Soap

(Anybody get the ATHF reference?)

The Boyfriend is quite the foodie...we only use homemade stocks around here. So he's pestering me to find a way to use up all those "fat caps" that come off a fresh batch of chicken stock. Waste not, want not. Why throw it away?

If its on the SoapCalc list...it must mean somebody uses it! Anybody on this board use chicken fat in soap? I did a search using the word "chicken" but all I got were postings about fried chicken recipes and other dietary discussions.

To the Internets. Arise chicken!!!

That's what my mother used. If you decide to render it, add some baking soda to the water and some salt. I would use the SAP value of emu oil, unless the lye calc has chicken fat.

I havent used it either, but how would it be any different than bear fat, buffalo fat, lard, and other animal fats that are used in soap? Id say if you have an abundance of an unwanted fat, can render it and strain it, and there is a SAP value for it on soapcalc.net (which there is) why not use it? saves you from having to buy fats when you already have some on hand.

I'd use it in cooking rather than soap with it! Mmm. Shmaltz.

Tick..tock...moment of truth. Chicken stock being made as I type this. Will the fat end up as soap....or as schmaltz and its scrumptious by-product, gribenes????

My money is on soap.

Definitely soap. Putting the chicken fat in soap is a better choice given my sky high cholesterol. Better to rinse it OFF my hips...than to turn it into bigger hips!
