I just got my first box from Bramble Berry and boy am I excited! I purchased two scents, Chai Tea, and Vanilla Vanilla. The sampler that came with the box was Buttercream & Snickerdoodle and OH MY GOD did it set my mouth watering. So before I opened the other scents I had the notion that these were going to smell strongly of what I had ordered. The Chai Tea had a much more faint scent, but it smelled like Chai Tea none the less and I have faith it will be sufficient once mixed into a batch of soap.
The Vanilla Vanilla threw me though a loop. It smells nothing like Vanilla but EXACTLY like Coppertone Suntan Lotion. The similarity is uncanny. I'm left with two hypotheses. 1 Vanilla Vanilla smells nothing like vanilla in the bottle but will smell like vanilla once mixed into soap. 2 Bramble Berry sent me the wrong fragrance oil. Has anyone else ordered Vanilla Vanilla before and if so, does the scent in the bottle remind one of vanilla in any way? I want to believe that what I have is what I ordered but no matter how I try and put myself in the mind set of vanilla as I sniff the bottle I only smell Coppertone Suntan Lotion. I ordered 8 oz so it's a considerable investment. Any advice? I know the language of a scent's description is subjective, and if I really want to know what I'm ordering I should get the sniffy samples, but this bears no resemblance to vanilla whatsoever to the point where I think there was a mix up in bottling.

I would be happiest to hear that undiluted Vanilla Vanilla smells like Coppertone and it will be fine in my soap, if anyone knows that for certain.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT! My SO just got home and they (without being prompted as to what the scent was supposed to be) guessed Vanilla, but a "fake yankee candle vanilla." I think my association with Coppertone overwhelmed any association with vanilla. I no longer suspect a screw up at BB, just on my part with my expectations. Lesson learned. Anyone know any vanillas out there that smell like vanilla beans themselves, or like real vanilla extract that are stable in CP soap?

I've not used their Vanilla Vanilla, but it is often the case that FOs smell a good bit different in the bottle than in the soap, that's why you'll hear a lot of soapers or suppliers say not to judge an FO OOB (out of the bottle). I've noticed to that a lot of FOs I've gotten lately arrive smelling not so great due to the hot weather we are experiencing, and in turn the FOs are experiencing in trainsit.

Test a small amount out in something small like MP or pull a little bit off your next CP batch before you fragrance it and add a couple mils Vanilla Vanilla to it to see what you think of it in soap after a week or so.

The description doesn't sound like it will be a "vanilla" smell. More of a vanilla and somewhat fruity bourbon drink. I find Tahitian vanilla beans smell almost like a pina collada. Sounds AWESOME, but not like a true vanilla.

Hm, that's weird that it smelled like Coppertone! When I smelled it, Vanilla Vanilla totally reminded me of Vanilla Bean Noel, but I could be way off base on that one!

Try Vanilla Select, Apo! BB makes Vanilla Select fo that smells like a buttery vanilla. It's wonderful though of course it turns your soap brown. Tahitian Vanilla fo just goes kinda sweet and loses it's vanilla in CP soaping. Vanilla Bean will happen someday! Good luck!

Oops, forgot to mention that Scent Shack's Vanilla Deluxe was recommended to me but I haven't tried it.

I really like NG's French Vanilla, and I am not really a huge vanilla fan. Their Vaniglia del Madagascar Type FO is supposed to be really good too.

I've had BB's non-discoloring vanilla FO on my wishlist for a while, has anyone used it?

My testers liked BBs Vanilla Select and WSPs Deluxe Vanilla best for a plain vanilla scent. Both turn a deep, dark chocolate brown.

I currently have the non-discoloring vanilla from BB. It is a good scent for blending, probably would not use it on its own. When I need to reorder I will go with the vanilla select and tolerate the discoloration to brown.

BB's Vanilla Select and WSP's Deluxe Vanilla were the 2 favorites of my testers for a plain vanilla... But they both end up looking like dark chocolate!
