Teach Soap

I have seen a couple of posts about using beer as the liquid/water in your CP soap. If you do this, does the beer leave a "scent" in the soap? I was pondering this while considering using rootbeer instead of beer. Has anyone tried this? Can you give me any pointers on this possible experiment? My DS loves rootbeer - he is only 7, and I was thinking of making him some soap just for him. Is this a crazy idea? So far I have only made soap using frozen goat milk - fresh from the doe in my backyard...

As for using rootbeer, I'd think the sugar content in that would cause some major overheating. If you do try it, I'd leave the rootbeer out to get as flat as possible.

Someone on a fb group I am a member of just made some CP with 7Up recently. From the photos it looked like it went well, but I didn't ask about it or anything. Not sure if you'd treat it like beer with the flattening/boiling/freezing or what.... I've only made beer soap once with Abita Amber and I didn't notice a strong smell from it.

I agree. Root beer has a high amount of sugar, which can make your soap overheat. Soap cool and don't insulate. I'm pretty sure it will gel on its own.

Thanks for the info! I think I will try a small recipe with it next week sometime. How long does it usually take the beer/pop to go flat?
