So now I am pretty comfortable with my cp recipes with lye/water/oils, I want to try making a batch with goats milk...or any kind of nourishing milk. I can only assume I will be using powdered goats milk as I don't think my grocery store carries the real thing. Question is, how much powder do I use? do I just make it as directed on the package and use what I need?

Also wondered how much honey and oats to use, I was going to try my honey powder!

While I am at it, how does everyone like the room temp process? I have read you simply pour the hot lye into the oils and voila...sounds to much easier then measuring temps:) Can this method be done with any soap batch?

If you are using GM powder, you can mix it with just enough water to dissolve the powder (think thin paste) and add it at trace. Or you can add it to your cooled off lye solution.

I'm not sure about the honey powder.

Both of these additives can cause overheating due to the sugars. If you are going to try these with the room temp process (RTCP), I recommend adding them at trace.

For RTCP measure your solid oils in and liquid oils separately. Break your solid oils into small chunks, the more surface area (chunks) for the lye to come in contact with the better. Then mix your lye and while it is still very hot pour it over the solid oils. As soon as those are melted, add the liquid oils and proceed like normal. Take care to be sure you don't get false trace (if the mixture ended up too cool), or with a volcano (if the mixture ended up too hot).

There should be instructions on the can of the powder on how much water it takes to reconstitute the milk. The honey powder should be added to some water as well. I would use regular liquid honey. For the oats, are they finely ground? Oats can absorb water.

How much milk powder is normal to use? The oats will be finely ground if I do decide to put them in.

I was thinking about using the RTCP and mixing the milk powder with a little of the water before adding the lye. Then I thought about putting it in after mixing my lye into the oils. The honey will go in at the same time as the milk...maybe even mix it together with the milk. When I ordered the little bit of honey powder to try, I figured it would be the same as the real thing only not so messy but I don't think many people use it in soaps!

I do exactly as SeaShoreCrafts describes. Mix both GM powder and honey powder in water to a paste and add them at trace.

I had just been mixing in a scoop (it comes with one) PPO and blending it into my melted oils. This worked for awhile but then I started to get white specks....darn! So now I am going to try mixing a scoop in a minimum of water and add this to my melted oils. If I add the powder to the water before the lye I will get a golden colored soap.
