I can tell you why people the Grapefruit seed extract is believed to be a preservative. It is plastered all over "The Natual Soap Book" and "The Soapmakers Companion" as such.

I guess my question is why use it or any preservative in a hard soap at all? The only reason I can think of is the superfatting and not wanting left over oils going rancid, which is a good reason in and of itself. I can also see if you are making soaps with food products that could go bad over time.

Having run inventory management in hospitals for 20yrs, my thoughts would be that your product should be turning over quick enough that deteriation should not be an issue.

A lot of us keep a hold of soaps for ages to see how they change over time. I know I read somewhere here that at least one soaper has some bars that are 2 years old and still doing great. I'm still a newbie, so my oldest soaps are 8 or 9 months old.

OH EM GEE, I just watched "the best soapmaking video 1".. LMAO!!!

Funny that she's getting paid every time we watch her crazy Youtube videos.

I think the funniest part is when she said she would have to stop the video and watch it because she forgot how much oil she put in..

While i'm over here screaming 5 1/2 like she can hear me..LOL!!!
