Could anyone help me identify what might be causing these white spots in my soap? They are driving me crazy! I don't think they're air bubbles, I'm careful not to incorporate too much air with my stickblender, and I bang the mold once the soap is in it.

I use a basic recipe of olive, coconut and palm oils. Could it be the palm oil? I do soap with room temp oils and hot lye...could that be the culprit?

Thanks in advance!

ETA - I'm sorry the pic is so HUGE!

I get those a lot too lately. I assumed they are air bubbles, even though I too limit my stick blending and burp it often, pour my lye water into my oils on top of a spatula, and bang my molds down on the counter. My SB has been making a bit of a rattling noise, so I ordered a new one just like the pink one on BB because I read some great reviews on it and had an Amazon gift card I've been trying to spend for a while.

I don't think it is the palm oil, as my last batch was palm free and still had the spots.

Beautiful soap by the way!!

Thanks Laura! I guess it could be the stickblender, I've had it since I started soaping and I've always had those spots...would be worth trying a different brand.

Try making this soap with both oils and lye at around 110 degrees. It think it's the temp that's your problem.

Aww, I was struggling to decide between the bright green and raspberry (a more hot pink than the one on BB's site). Raspberry won out. And now I feel oddly jealous haha.

Thanks Irena, I suspect that's what it is too...I'll give it a try with my next batch and report back!

I have had a few batches with the white spots as well. No palm in them, soap at approx 110 degrees. ?? air but have done nothing different with the stick blender. Thought it was the TD so have left it out and still happened in one batch. Just had the thought that it might be my goats milk powder. Started with a new can tonight and blended it in very well. Maybe next time I will premix it with some reserved water and add that to my oils? As for now they do not seem to be hurting the soap so I pretend that they are part of the design. :)

soapcakes - love the soap... very fresh looking!

Goat's milk or TD can also give you spots.

See that is what I thought! Although my past goats milk was not expired it had been open for about 6-9 months. I am using a new can now so maybe that will make a difference. I will know in a few days.

I get those white spots too, quite often. It seems more pronounced in some soaps than others, even though the ingredients are the same and I typically have my temps about the same (110-120 F). My oils are just olive, coconut, palm, shea butter, and castor. Lye is from Essential Depot. Can't figure it out.....but glad to know I'm not alone!

As for the hot pink (raspberry) stick blender.....THAT is the one I have, and I just love it!
