Teach Soap

I'm still very new to soaping and have so far used fragrance oils, however my sis-in-law gave me some very old EOs that she thought I could use. I thought of mixing in some lemon EO with BBs Oatmeal,Milk & Honey FO but chickened out! I wasn't sure how much EO to use, whether or not I would like them mixed or what happens by using old expired EOs!! What do you think? Should I have been brave and tried it or was it better playing it safe? When do EOs expire and what is the harm in using expired ones?

I don't use many EOs but there are some, like Patchouli, that you can keep for a very long time. Maybe soapbuddy can help with this question.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I think most vendor sites usually give a recommended shelf life sort of thing. I know Soap Making Resource mails a certificate with each EO I get from them with origins, date range, etc. If you know where she bought them from maybe you can check their site.

Thanks!! I think she bought them a couple years ago from a store having a big "Going out of business" sale! They are body safe as she was purchasing to make massage oils but found some ahe'd never used.

The shelf life of citrus oils is about 6 months to 1 year. Vetiver or Patchouli last for years. It dpends which EO's they are. They all vary.
