Teach Soap

Hello everyone!
I have been following your post for a year now. I was Finally brave enough to jump from Melt and Pour to Cold Press. I was very excited to have success with my first batch...and a couple other basic ones followed. I was so thrilled and definately hooked!

The other day I tried my hand at a large batch with my brand new 5 lb mold from BB (a Bday gift to myself ), added the lye water to the oils (which I mixed in some powdered goats milk). Poured it fine in the mold and stuck in the fridge. Hours later I checked and noticed a crack in the middle. My soap had overheated. I took it out and noticed that it was hard...so I let it rest for a couple of days and prayed that it will be ok.

I cut it today...excited...and what do you know, I had all this clear liquid come out of it. All I could do was stand there, speechless.

My poor husband tried to make me feel better by suggesting that maybe the liquid would be moisturizing for the skin. . So I took out all the books I had to see if there was a way I could save the oils. Every single author said to discard it...I really hate to go all those oils go to waste. Is there a way to save it? The 9 oz of Shea butter is just making my head hurt

Soaps with milk, honey, fruit juices or sugars can overheat, even in the fridge. Sometimes that liquid absorbs back in. Did you check for zap?

I checked the outer pieces n I did not taste anything bad... But I must confess I have not experienced Zap yet

Can I try anything else?
I must say the I ended up pouring into two small molds from the same batch n those two bars are ok. At least I get to experience some of what the batch would have been

Any soap I am afraid will overheat I do not put in wooden molds, since wood is such an insulator, just to be cautious.

I am not a fridge soaper, but it seems like (from what I have seen) this is a common problem with that process? Is that true?

Sorry about that batch, Roxana. It's always frustrating when a batch "goes south." It may be a mismeasurement somewhere. If there is alot of oil, it probably won't all absorb back in. Still, if you aren't getting any zap, then it's not lye heavy. Cut it when it's firm enough and then cure it. Maybe it will be ok but if not you can rebatch it. In the meantime you can cheer yourself up by making more soap.
