Teach Soap

Will just keep watching mine and hoping for no DOS. Maybe I'll make another batch and scale the canola down to 10% and see what happens.

What about sunflower oil? I've found that pretty cheap. Olive oil is cheap if you can find it on sale and in large quantities.

I haven't been able to find sunflower oil yet but I have started buying the large containers of olive oil at Sam's. It's been working out well for me

*Sigh* As soon as I saw a recipe on another site for "Canolive Soap" I jumped at the chance to use canola oil to cut costs since I hope to eventually sell. I used 40.9% Olive, 40.9 % Canola, and 18.2% Coconut. DOS showed up within about four weeks on the first test batch I made, by which point I had made four other batches with the same recipe testing scents. I'm looking at a shelf filled with bars of doomed soap and wasted money. I did get a chance to improve my technique with those batches but it breaks my heart to watch them go rancid.

Oh well, live and learn, just wish I'd found this forum sooner.

Has anyone else had problems with canola and ash? I finally ditched my canolive recipe because even alcohol didn't help. Never tried the steam method though.

I learn so much when I can't leave well enough alone!

Canola oil gives me DOS. I just don't use it as I don't want to throw away soap or waste my ingredients.
