Not my first since last week I did the craft store one, but my first this week with I'm hoping better ingredients:) I'm not overly happy with it and hoping for some feedback. The recipe I used called for 1 lb clear base, 1 tea Vit E, 1 teaspoon Vanilla and 1 1/2 tbs Brown Sugar. Well when I had it all poured I realized I used a 2 lb slab of the base, but didn't double the rest of the ingredients:( No problem I read many places I can remelt and fix, so I figured that would be today's project. I just took them out of the molds and tried some. It leaves my hands feeling kinda sticky until they dry and you can feel a slight residue afterwards. Is it the brown sugar? The clear base? The fact the ingredients aren't right? Hopefully here's a pic. The little hearts are a candy mold I found in the cupboard, the bars are from one of the bases I have got in so far.

Your picture is about 1.5cm squared, could you post it a bit larger? :D

What were the ingredients in the mp base? It could be something in there that's leaving a residue. As for the stickiness that could be a combination of the base ingredients & the brown sugar.
Also, when you say "vanilla" do you mean vanilla fragrance oil or something else?

One other thing, that many people may disagree with me about but I've done it and seen it, sugar in mp can grow mold.

I tried to make the pic bigger, but it wouldn't let me.

The Vanilla was FO. SLS FREE glycerin soap base: Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Stearate, Sorbitol, Coconut Oil, Sodium Myristate, Triethanolamine, Sodium Laurate, Sodium Cocoate, Purified Water.

I didn't know that about the sugar, I got the recipe in a book on M&P from the library.

It's weird that the ingredients list coconut oil & then list it again as sodium cocoate. Can I ask where you got the base from?

As you begin to read and learn from soap forums, you'll see that many soap making books have recipes that don't work nicely. I've seen many that have recipes where you put pureed fruit or fresh milk in mp soap. That's a moldy disaster waiting to happen.

Thanks I will keep that in mind about the books, just thought it was a good way to get started:( I got the base from Nature's Garden.

You know, I've used that base many times and never notice coconut oil was listed twice. LOL
