Teach Soap

I'd like to make a conditioner with an extract, a vitamin, and a protien. I've read Swifty's blog and a few other sites but wanted to make sure I understand everything! You add up the % of you ingredients and then water to make up 100%. Right? Thinking 2% extract (horse chestnut), B5, and wheat protein.

ALL your ingredients need to add up to 100%. That includes any actives and water.

That's what I thought Thanks!! Ohh I got some cetac too, Swifty recommended it for frizzy hair. Now I just need to make sure I follow usage rates hehe. Is there a certain % that NEEDS to be water? I don't want to overdo it on the additives and mess it up by not having enough water.

Since everyone's hair is different, you will need to experiment. Start with a basic formula like Swifty has and tweak it from there. Keep good notes.

Going to do two of her (his?) recipes but add horse chestnut to both. And wheat protein rather than silk since silk makes mom and I get hives on our heads The only other difference is that one recipe uses cyclo and dimethicone and the other just dimethicone. Mine is a combination of the two in one product so the recipes will both get, well, both! I printed the hair conditioners PDF so I could basically study it before I try to make conditioner. It seems pretty straight forward, but I like to fuss and make sure I know what I'm doing ahead of time so I don't muck up a bunch of ingredients.

where is your conditioning agent? I mean your cationic surfactant if you're going to make the conditioner?

I have recipes by a known genius of bath and body products hehe I was simply asking about additives to the recipes. They both use BTMS and cetyl alcohol. Cyclo and di or just dimethicone, preservative, a protein (I chose wheat), and panthenol.

Thanks hun! Once all of my myriad of orders has arrived I'll start in on this! I'm super excited, yet nervous. Some of the ingredients were kind of expensive!
