I made honey and oatmeal soap today and it does not seem to smell of honey at all and I put 8tbspns into a 7 pound batch. I did not put any EO in as I wanted the natural honey smell. Was it something I did or does honey not smell once its into the batch? I have bought honey soap and it semlls lovely without fragrance oil? I also made Geranium soap with a cream and white layer and a peaked top and that one is just fine so not all a loss today. Ha ha I have just realised the time in the US. I bet you think I've worked skippity hop to get those done at 11 in the morning! It's 8 in the evening here.

You won't get much of a honey smell that way. You could boost it with unrefined beeswax.

I agree with soapbuddy. Not much honey scent survives the saponification process. I find that my soaps with honey smell faintly like bread or graham crackers!

Wow thanks Linda! I'm on vacation this week so I might make this my next batch. Can you get the powdered goats milk at a regular grocery store?

We have a Pick & Save grocery store about 5 blocks from me that carries the powdered goats milk... ask at your grocery store if you cannot find it. BB also sells it.

I do not know what is happening to me but things are going from bad to worse at the moment. I have a range of soaps curing at the minute, all on shelving on kitchen roll, with kitchen roll lying lightly over the top. the bars are not touching and I turn them every week. I have put the ones that er finihed curing in card storage boxes with card lids on. i have noticed that lots of the soaps that are curing are starting to or losing their scent completely. Do I need to keep them boxed to cure? I did not think I should to allow the air to circulate but its all going wrong. I have Orris root powder in them and thought this held the scent? I have noticed one person uses hydrolised oat protien in all her soaps, is this something to hold the smell and if so is it better tah orris root powder? I am now looking at 12 batches of curing soap thinking how much money I have lost if they do not smell. :(

I don't use anything to hold the scent and have had no issues. Maybe ask someone who isn't around the soaps all the time to sniff them? Our noses will get used to smells and we stop smelling them. Perhaps your nose is just used to the smells now.

How much fo or eo are you putting in the soap & when in the soaping process are you doing it?
