My once super smelly soaps when poured are loosing there scent, is that normal? The lavender I just did for instance, was pretty strong and I knew it would loose some and that was ok but it seem to be loosing a lot. I also did a raspberry jasmine FO that has lost most of its original scent. Made a batch with cocoa butter that smelt pretty at first but now I cant smell it at all. The only one that has kept its scent nicely is my oatmeal/milk and honey FO! Will the fragrance pop back once put in water?

Is there something I can put into the recipe to stop so much from evaporating off during the cure period or is this normal and better that the soap is not so strong smelling

I know there are some who will disagree, but I was taught to add a teaspoon of orris root powder to my batch and my soap have always held scent for years as I save one from each batch. There are also other things like are they from good venders, etc. I get most if not all from BB and Peaks and stay away from most others as have not had as good results.

It could be that you have become used to the smell, too. If I have mine sitting out where I can smell them all the time, the scent seems to fade, but when I put them in my extra room to cure and don't smell them for a few days, the scent is fine.

I think most of us wish for that. Last week my allergies were acting up and when I made two batches of soap I was not able to smell either one! Both were fragrances I had used previous and knew they did well in my soaps. But this week things are better and my soaps smell very good. This happened to me once before when I did patch and ornage... who ever hear of patch disappearing??? But it was just me  :D

Saffire has great quality FOs! I used to use them when I was in Canada. They assured me that their scents were soap safe unless otherwise marked.

Edit: Oh yeah, I find some of my soap have little to no scent left, but my family assures me the soaps still smell great. My nose gets used to them apparently!

Orris root makes me itch. I add Patchouli, Vetiver or Litsea to make my blend last longer. If you decide to use orris root, please list it in your ingredient label.

I tend to scent things fairly strongly but my husband never thinks it's enough. Maybe his sniffer isn't very sensitive! Some people definitely tend to be much more or less sensitive to scents.

Of Vetiver or Litsea which do you think is better? And how much do you use per lb of oil or per oz of FO? Thanks!

Try sniffing some ground coffee and then go smell the soap....maybe you are just getting used to the smells.

When using Orris rhizome powder, is it best to add the orris rhizome to the FO or EO and then to the soap?
