Teach Soap

I'm considering a purchase of SoapMaker 3. For those that have this, is it worth the money? I would probably go with the "Lite" version, as I'm just getting started.
Or is there another soaping software worth looking into?

It's worth it. Besides using it to make soap recipes, you can put all your inventory in there.

I suggest going ahead and buying the full version, if you can afford it, if you're starting to sell because of the inventory/bar tracking ability and invoicing ability. I'm not selling yet, but I like making soap well enough that I like being able to keep track of who've I've given bars of each batch to, store all my recipes (not just soap ones), and my oil inventory all in one program.

I have the lite version right now, but will probably upgrade to the full version in the near future. It's a great program and fairly easy to use.

If you are looking at this as a buisness adventure then I would say you will need something, and short of building your own this works very well. I do think if you are going to get it do it as soon as you can, it took me a few batches to understand the lye\water thing. And I now put in all of my purchases, but still have some items that I did not save recipts for, so have not put them in. I got the lite version as I will probably not sell in the near future.

Thank you, friends, for sharing your opinions/experience. I do think I will get it, but now need to decide which version . I won a gift certificate to soapequipment.com at our state's soap conference/meeting last week, and thought it would be a wise investment to put the gift certificate toward this program. Sounds like it will be very useful to me!

I just bought the full version yesterday and its very easy to use. If you are going to sell, just go all out and get the full version.

I just purchased it myself. I'm still inputting all of the necessary data. The only thing I didn't like (so far) is that I had to find the specific gravity of the essential oils. This was an impossible task, so I simply entered a 1 for every essential oil.

The only thing I've noticed is that when I had it resize some small recipes to fit a larger mold, it said it needed less lye that SoapCalc did. All the ones I tried did that so I adjusted the SF so the lye amount agreed with SoapCalc. All in all, it's a great program.

I just upgraded my Lite version to the Pro version and LOVE IT!!!!! It took a little while getting all my oil/FO/additive quantities entered, and then figuring out the "Make Batch" feature, but it is so worth it! I've already made 5 batches and started an invoice for a wholesale order. It's nice to be able to see what your profit margin will be on each order, and how much stock you have remaining. I still need to go through and enter all my current stock so that I can keep better track of what I sell at the Farmer's Market. This is a great program!
