I have several small sample FO's from BB, they are only enough for one pound batches but it is so much work to get everything out for only one pound!! Is it possible to make a large batch of soap base and then divided it up into several one pound batches to put different FOs and colors in each batch before getting into the molds? I'm thinking it would start setting up too quickly to do this. Should I just divide it up into one pound batches unscented and uncolored and then after it cures melt them each down and color and scent them? Has anyone else done this? I appreciate your help!!

You could do the rebatching, but that sounds like a lot of work. Instead bring your soap to a very, very light trace. Like barely traced even. Then split it up into different containers.

I have taken a batch and divided it into 12 - 4-5 oz containers and then scented each one differently. These get poured into my 12 bar silicone mold from BB. The key to this is to know your recipe well.... use one that does not trace quickly, take it only to a very light trace and do not try anything toooo complicated with each of the batches that would prevent you from getting to the next one in a timely fashion.

I have that mold! How much scent do you like in 5 oz?
Thanks!

For 4-5 oz bar I did 0.2oz and I just did the math and it comes out to 6ml or 5.7gms. Good going Genny. This is one instance that I did an amount measurement vs a weight measurement. It was just tooo finicky for me to weigh out 0.2oz on my scale. Remember I wanted to work fast.

Yes, but since I did twelve different scents I did not have 12 shot glasses. And I wanted to work quick before the soap batter went to full trace. I was able to get the information from these bars.... did it seperate, color change, fragrance fade. Not to mention I got alot of different soaps this way!

Soapbuddy, I like the idea of the paper cups as I don't have enough containers. Would you just use the paper cup as your mold then since it is a sample, just to learn how that FO works? I could use 4-5 oz. cups measure the FO into each then divide the batter to each, stir well and cover with a towel. Tear the paper away to unmold.

I think I want to use one sample bottle to a pound of soap. (To avoid measuring out little bits). What I did previously was to make two pounds, divided in half, put FO and color in half and then swirled them together. I used Yuzu Cybilla FO from BB and that half accelerated faster than the plain half so it was hard to swirl into my Pringles tubes but it turned out okay. The tubes look like they are foil lined but there is a layer of plastic over that foil and it was fine.

I'm hoping to get some soaping done this week sometime and use some of these wonderful samples before my next order!
