Any info or tips anyone would like to share? Usage rates? Is it a sensitizer? Does it accelerate trace?

Someone has requested some ginger soap, and I've never used this EO before.

Ginger eo's slightly phototoxic, not as bad as citrus eo's though. It can be a skin irritant, but not too bad in soap.

The ginger that I've used has always been pretty strong, so a little goes a long way. I usually start at 3.5 grams per lb of oils and then if need be I up it from there. I've never had any problems with acceleration, but I soap cool. It does discolor. Also, not all ginger eo's are the same. Some are more earthy smelling, some are more spicy smelling and some are more sweet smelling.

Also, it's a great anchor for orange & grapefruit eo's

As Genny said, not all ginger EOs are the same. The good stuff that smells like fresh grated ginger is sold as fresh or CO2 process, I believe. It is expensive. The cheaper stuff is distilled from dry ginger and can smell musty or even like dirty socks to some noses.

There is a gingergrass EO which is worth trying as a cheaper alternative.

Or you could go with a nice FO. Brambleberry's Ginger Fish (I think it's been renamed - Ginger Ale, maybe?) is pretty realistic smelling.

Dirty socks, huh? :shock:

I'm delivering some lip balm to a co-worker of the ginger-soap requester early next week. I may take the bottle of EO with me and let her smell it.

I don't know her that well, and for all I know, she may be a big fan of dirty socks! :lol:

I love hydrodiffused ginger EO the best. It smells like fresh ginger.

Liberty Natural has a couple of fresh, steam-distilled versions. Is that what I should be looking for?

I didn't see the word "hydrodiffused" on either Liberty Natural's or the other site you recommended.
