Teach Soap

First, I have to say thanks for all the excellent help given in this forum...I've only posted a few times but you all helped me fix my first batch back in September! And I love reading everyone's experiences here with different kinds of soap before I try something new.

I pretty much just make simple soaps for my family, but I kind of thought it would be fun to try piling up the tops into more of a sculpted look, or kind of fluffy, as some of the soapers here do. I was wondering if I should be trying to get heavy trace before putting it into the mold to do that, or if people do it after it's been in the mold for a while (before or after gel phase?). I haven't had much luck getting heavy enough trace.

I would pour most of it into your mold, then leave the rest in the pot. Use what's left in the pot at a heavy trace to sculpture the tops. You can use a spatula to transfer the soap at heavy trace to the top of the sop that's already in the mold.

I pour mine at a light trace and then leave it to sit in the mold until it is super thick. Then I use a spoon to texture the tops into fluffy peaks!

Same, I do it after it's been sitting in the mold for 10-15 minutes.

Like the two previous replies, I just wait. I pour a pretty thick trace, but I don't supposed it matters. Let it thicken a little and you'll be able to get the peaks you want!

I am excited to try. My olive oil and a few other things I ordered from BB is scheduled to arrive today, so maybe I'll get to do some soaping this weekend.
