Teach Soap

Just a question.... I made an all canola oil soap one time and it came out SUPER soft. Like, it hit the water and felt slimy. Canola oil has a hardness of 6, and olive oil has a hardness of 17, so does that little difference really keep the soap from being too soft? Perhaps I didn't cook it long enough or something, but I just wanted to know your experience with castile soaps with regard to hard/soft-ness.

My castile soaps get hard fast. If yours is soft, it's possible that the olive oil was adultarated.

After about a week mine was as hard as rock. After 6 months I'm pretty sure I could throw it at a rock and break said rock hehe 'Tis a hard bar!

I think an all canola oil bar would be on the very soft side, where olive oil - even though it is a liquid oil will process as a hard oil. So I would say that those hardness levels would make for the difference you obtained. I don't even know if you added bees wax or sodium lactate that the bar would be as hard as you want it to be??? where an all olive oil bar does get very hard after a longer cure.
