How much essential oil as a rule would you put in a product intended for babies? Like Tea Tree and Lavender EO's for example.

.5%? ..... 1%? Less?

California Baby and Burt's Bees, for example, use essential oils in their baby products. And there is literature on safe use of essential oils for babies. I mean, it makes me a bit nervous but I would like to see some more research on it.

I still wouldn't use any. There's nothing wrong with an unscented product. (Burt's Bees is owned by Clorox now.)

Depending on the age of the baby, I would go with unscented as well.

So are the articles and books about essential oils and babies incorrect or are you coming from "let's be safe than sorry" and "it may be OK but why risk it?" type of stance?

Because I know people say that some EO's are OK for pregnant women but that terrifies me. I would never encourage a pregnant woman to put anything on her body with an EO in it. Is the same idea with babies? Some people say it's safe but it just may not be? And why risk it?

The big companies have big clout and bucks behind them. I don't think there could be a worse feeling than to think I brought harm to a child with something that I made. Why take the risk. Actually soap does have a gental smell even without fragrance... I use no EO or FO in my baby soaps.

Okay. All of that makes sense. Nothing scented for babies it is. I wouldn't want to hurt a child either! That's a terrifying thought.

Oh yeah, ouch!! I sprinkle salts into the bath for nappy rash or cuts on the kids.

NO ESSENTIAL OILS FOR BABIES AND CHILDREN UNDER 2 YEARS. YOU may apply hydrosols/floral waters or plant extracts for babies but you should be really sure and confident in your supplier.

Pregrant women need and enjoy EOs, however you should be aware about the contraindications. You can always apply Bergamot, Orange, Grapefruit and Tangerin (be careful with photosensitization.
no:
Cornmint, Ajowan, Angelica root, Anise seed, Valerian, Basil, Savory, Citronella, Dill, Oak moss, Lemon verbena, Tarragon, Eucalyptus, Fennel, Galangal, Ginger, Camphor, Labdanum, Lovage, Bay Laurel, Meadowsweet, Marjoram, clary sage, Nutmeg, Myrrh, Allspice, oregano, Perubalsam, parsley, peppermint, Rosemary, sage, lime peel, Yarrow, Lavandula stoechas , black pepper, Black cumin, celery, star anise, Tagetes, red thyme, cedarwood, Juniper berry, pine, winter savory, Cedrus atlantica, wintergreen, hyssop, Cinnamon, cassia, cypress, lemon, lemon myrtle, bitter orange
during pregnancy.

Please notice that we're talking about EOs and not about herbs or floral waters.
