In the hardware stores in NZ they don't carry 100% lye.
Something to do with using it for methamphetamine production. :shock:

Same reason it's hard to find in the US, but, occasionally, one gets lucky. Used to be you could get it from any market.

Sometimes the hardware stores etc. will carry lye, but you have to ask for it - they keep it off the shelves. And, some places make you sign a waiver before selling it to you.
