Teach Soap

Wondering if I could get some critiques of a recipe I tried. It seems soft. No excess oils. Did not insulate it just let it sit to see what happens. It's about 24 hours old.
For a 3lb batch
5% Cocoa Butter 68 grams
7.5 % Castor Oil 102 grams
32.5 % Coconut Oil 442 grams
37.5 % Olive Oil 510 grams
17.5% Palm Oil 238 grams

517 grams distilled water
196 grams lye

I split this batch into 4 equal parts leaving one uncolored,one green,one brown and one black. I wanted to try a camoflague look.
I used 1/4 oz of each color. I uesd 1.5 oz Frankinscence.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Wish someone lived closer that could just lookk at the stuff I'm doing and say YEAH NAY or just plain WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???

Try dropping the castor to 5% and up your olive to make up the difference. For my skin, I find coconut over 20% drying. I don't have my soap calc with me; how much did you superfat?

I ran your recipe through soapcalc and it looks like you did a 5% superfat. The recipe itself looks fine. If you didn't insulate it, it might not have gelled. That could mean it will take several days to harden. Just give it a little more time.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I do not usually go that high on coconut oil, I did for a few batches do a 6 and 7% of castor oil but then backed it down to 5% as I did not think it really increased the bubbles! The best thing I have found to do for my soaps is not use them until they are 4 months old... that is when they are at their best. Sometimes it is hard to wait so I am working on trying to make my soaps at least three months ahead of time.

Thanks Soapbuddy, Susie and Linda for your help. I did OK with a basic recipe till I started wanting to add butters. Now it's back to square one again.

What do I put the remaining 12.5 % from the coconut oil whenI reduce it to 20%??

Add it to your olive oil content, or you could split it between the OO and PO.

You could try reducing your water amount to help your soap to firm up faster.

With full water and if you don't gel it can take several days to get hard enough to unmold cleanly.
