Jrose - I love your gradient soap! How lovely!!! Two of my favorite things: the color green and soap! Love it. :D

Found my phone so I could get some pics of my other soaps.

This one was supposed to be much darker with a lot of white curls, but the soap seized up on me. I think I am blending too long or waiting too long to add the scent. BUT I like the way it turned out in spite of melting most of the curls. Its made with coffee for the liquid and vanillan scent. I call it fossil fuel. LOL

This one has to be my most perfect bar to date. beer soap with nutmeg on top and a little sprinkled inside, other than that no scent or coloring,
Image

and what I know to be failed GM soap, no scent it overheated on me and separated. letting it cure before rebatching it.

Coconut MIlk Soap...with coconut oil at 20% and coconut shreds inside. Also turned out pretty good if I do say so myself.

Dawn, I can see by your soaps that you are very adventurous and are learning. I love the name "fossil fuel", it fits the soap very well.

There is a specific look to swirls that are done with a thicker soap batter. Sometimes I will do this on purpose. Or you could go for one color and focus on the tops of the soap... that requires the batter to reach a heavy trace. There is alot you can do with what comes naturally to you!

Are you using pomace olive oil? I know I used it for a long while without realizing that it does in fact thicken up a good bit (guess I missed that in product description!), then switched. For the longest I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong!

I am not using pomace oil...at least to my knowledge. I have been getting my oil at the grocery. Since I bought a gallon at Walmart, I have been having strange results. I am not sure if its that particular olive oil or not. I have also started using freezer paper instead of parchment paper. It seem like I am having more issues with overheating/re-heating. I am using some wood molds that my husband made for me. I made some last night and when I woke up this morning, I had to shove it in the frig to stop the heat from cracking the top. Just took it out of the mold and it looks like its set just fine, but some of the bottom is a bit crumbly. ( I jsut trimmed an end to check out the swirl pattern) I am going to let it sit a while for cutting any more.

60% of ALL olive oils that are imported are adulterated with other oils. I would buy another brand of olive oil and make the same recipe and see if you get the same results. I get my olive oil from Costco.

IMPORTED OLIVE OILS:

Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Two out of three samples failed.
Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Three of three samples failed.
Pompeian Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Three of three samples failed.
Colavita Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Two of three samples failed.
Star Extra Virgin Olive Oil: One of three samples failed.
Carapelli Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Three of three samples failed.
Newman's Own Organics Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Two of three samples failed.
Mezzetta Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Three of three samples failed.
Mazola Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Three of three samples failed.
Rachael Ray Extra Tasty Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Two of three samples failed.
Kirkland Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil: All samples passed.
Great Value 100 percent Extra Virgin Olive Oil: One of three samples failed.
Safeway Select Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Two of three samples failed.
365 Everyday Value 100 percent Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Two of three samples failed.

DOMESTIC OLIVE OILS:

Corto Olive Extra Virgin Olive Oil: All samples passed.
California Olive Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil: All samples passed.
McEvoy Ranch Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil: All samples passed.
Bariani Olive Oil Extra Virgin Olive Oil: One of two samples failed.
Lucero (Ascolano) Extra Virgin Olive Oil: All samples passed.
