I was planning on experimenting with cold process soaps, because it seems to be the favorite.
I was just wondering, do you HAVE to use Lye? And if not, what can you use as an alternative? Will the soap still turn out the same with out it?

You can't make soap without lye. You should go to this website. www.millersoap.com Thats where I was sent when i first came here about a month ago. As long as you are careful and follow safety precautions and advice from people on here you will be ok. There actually isn't any lye left in the soap after in cures. If you are worried about finding it and not wanting to order online yet, I get mine from Ace Hardware. Just make sure it is 100% Lye.
