My boyfriend and I just bought a new house and I've staked out half of our garage as my new soaping studio. As you can guess, I've been spending a lot of time lately trying to plan the perfect work area.

So, fellow soapers, what do you love about your work space? Do you have a favorite piece of equipment, some creative organization tips, or anything else? I'd love to hear all of your ideas, big or small!

Personally, I love my curing racks. I currently have three of these (they were only about $50 in store): . They're sturdy, were easy to put together and allow my CP soaps to breathe as they cure.

I will be in the same boat soon if we can get escrow on our house to close once and for all! I am already thinking/dreaming about it :)

For me, I really love the convenience and efficiency of clear shoebox size containers for storage and/or acrylic trays for small items (like trial size fragrance bottles). I got quite a few at Costco before (made by Iris) which is a supplier to the Container Store. The Container Store can easily become another addiction, much like soaping, at least IMHO because they have SOOOO many tools & options for making your space unique.

I bought myself a labeler too sometime ago, which is a nifty tool to have once you've sorted by type/color/size/ or whatever your organizing style is.

One other thing I recently did was pick up garage sale circle labels (the kind you write prices on) in a pack of 3 colors and sorted all my fragrances. I wrote the name of the fragrance on a label as well as its flashpoint for quick reference and stuck it on the top of the lid. Frags with FP's of 200 degrees+ got a red label; orange were mid-level FP's; and green were for the low FP fragrances.....Yeah, I know, I'm a little crazy :)

Good luck in your new space!

We're starting work on my soap workshop Thursday I think!!! A whole room just for soap (and scrapbooking etc)... and a fish tank. I like carnivorous fishies! Mine died a couple years ago and I so miss watching him. Sooo soap and carnivorous fish workshop! LOL

Will have a sink and microwave, along with counters and storage underneath, a movable work table, built in curing racks (over my curio cabinet of antique cat figurines and snow globes) and 2 big shelves for storage of my larger items. Hope to get some nice baskets to organize the shelves. Its an awkward room though, it has 2 big windows, a door to the hall and a door to a small outside deck. So My cabinets are only about 60" long and have to be notched out at the back to fit around the windowsill. But I can't wait! No more hauling my soaping stuff from the back of the house to the kitchen, then back again afterwards!

Don't forget to space the outlets at counter height and make sure you have more than what you think you will need. Also consider lighting.... type and where. Someday I am going to have a soaping and scrapbooking room. In the basement would be fine... lots of storage, a microwave, a sink and some music. Now you got me dreaming!

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! I'm lucky to have a lot of equipment from my current soaping room (hot plate, microwave, curing racks). Now I'm just dreaming about the finishing touches and any mind-blowing extras :D

Stacey, since you mention The Container Store... no, no, I'm staying way away from there. I love the way you labeled your fragrances! I did the same thing with mine, except I labeled them as top/middle/base note rather than flashpoint.

Hestey, I'm so jealous that you have a soaping sink! In my next space as well as my current one, I'm always trekking things to the sink. Not convenient for anyone, and you always have to be incredibly careful to avoid cross-contamination.

This really makes me want to dig out my garage and create a "soap space"! Can I just light a match and toss it in?
