I was just wondering, because I saw all of the neat shapes that other people made. If I was to put a piece of wax paper on the table, and place little cookie cutters all around the sheet and then pour the soap in the cookie cutters would this work? Or would all the soap just go all over.
It was just a thought.

Actually, I think I might go and try it anyways.... Just to see.

Here you go, this is a link to Anne Marie's blog with a tutorial about cookie cutter M&P soaps, I plan on using this technique as soon as my BB order comes in.

Well, I made a star soap with a cookie cutter. Its green and I scented it with Rosemary Spearment E.O.

Would you buy something that looked like this?

And these are the other soaps that I made... do you think people would buy them?

Image
The yellow one is vanilla scented.

The purple one is lavander scented.

I thought they turned out okay, but I need to buy some different molds.

I definitely would buy the purple one. My preferences lean towards pearly or sparkly more transluscent colors in M&P. In general I stay away from minty scents, so as pretty as the star is, the scent is the dealbreaker for me. CP soap it all depends on the oils used.

You may want to do some research on cool embedding shapes, as I know those sell better than simple solids. The flaunt your stuff thread has a lot of cool embedded soaps in it.

Also look at how elaborate and gorgeous PJs soaps are- http://www.pjsoaps.com she's the picasso of M&P!

So, it it bad to use "minty" smelling E.O.'s?
I'm kind of just getting into the whole soaping thing, so anything will help.

Not necessarily, its just personal preference. Your actual customers may love mint!

Here's an example- I live in the desert with a lot of hippies, so scents like lavender, patchouli, and sandalwood are more popular than floral or fruity. Your region may be totally different, heck if you lived in WI I bet cheese scents soap would sell

Hi Lisah,

I love your soaps (I actually have that same flower mold!). I think you are doing a great job. I have a problem too with the scents... not really sure what people want since I have customers who love the cakey smelling stuff, but others simply abhor it. Some like flowers, some don't. It's really a case of where you are, and what people like (which is vast here in NYC). I would just experiment. See what scents move and see what don't. Use your nose too. Funny, scents that I love (and I think I have good tastes), other people seem to not be as crazy about and vice-versa. Make a little of everything and see what moves.
I think the cookie cutter star looks nice. Is it thin, or is it just the way it photographed. I, as a rule, try to keep my soaps 1 oz (guest soaps)and up. Tho, I've seen people do real neat things with thinner soaps... soap petals anyone.

Just experiment and have fun with it. :D

Ya, I guess it is hard to find good scents that everyone will love.
I think that I should sign up for paypal and buy things off bramble berry, because everyone on here says those scents are the best.

As for the star, I haven't actually weighed it yet but I don't think it is too thin, it is about a half an inch thick. Maybe I should make them a little bit thicker.

I also have the same flower mold. My best seller right now is Rosemary Peppermint. I have it in cold process only but will probably do some guest size m&p's in it. People seem to love it! I like the shaped ones and I know people who buy them for their kids or guest bathrooms.

I don't really fancy the mold.. but its okay for now.

So, I should make some small guest sized soaps too rather than just having the bigger bars. Right now, I'm just testing the soaps so it is only plain glycerin soap, and it has aloe vera in it and nothing else.

What type of soap do you use?

I have found that my favorite is Shea butter melt and pour. I do alot of guest sizes that have a flower or snowflake on top. I use clear that I color appropriate to the mold and use that for the detail and then I pour a white shea butter base.

Just so you get an idea of what I am talking about.

Those are really nice :)
Where do you buy the Shea Butter Base?
And how long do you have to let the desgin set, before you can pour the base?

I buy mine from but I know that Brambleberry also sells Shea melt and pour. I haven't tried it yet but I am sure it is wonderful.

As for the soaps. The designs are very thin and don't take long to set up at all. I pour and then wait just long enough to melt the white. Spray with alcohol and then pour. I can make a bunch of these in a very small amount of time.

Thanks for your help!
But before I buy off of the internet, I think I am going to try to find a place near home that sells it first. If I can't, then I'll buy off of bb :D
