Teach Soap

My father in law forgot to crate Shadow when he went out. She got ahold of a bar of my beer and oatmeal soap! She and Rainy ate part of a bar. The vet got us to make them vomit as he was unsure what the soap would do to them. Anyone else have a similar accident? Or know what would have happened had we not induced vomitting?

My friend Freddy had that same thing happen with some lemon poppyseed soap that I made - albeit was fully cured- she ate half the bar, but she was totally fine. Since she liked it so much Freddy decided to bathe her with it, and she like that too! Im thinking that they will be fine, they may get the runs if they ate a whole bunch of it, so watch out for that.

We made them vomit it up with peroxide. They seem fine, was just a little scary!

Bad, Hestey! Leaving your soap all over the place where poor innocent little doggies can get into it...shame on you!

Years ago, I left a lotion bar mix where my lab/mastiff mix could get it. He ate about a pound of beeswax and vegetable fat, along with lavender essential oil Oh my!

Me either! I know EXACTLY what oils and waxes do to dogs' insides! I worked at a vets office for years, as a volunteer (I ended up doing tech work a lot though, cause I'm impossible to stop from learning hehe) kennels were part of my job. Imagine a dog who eats butter and brittle bones. I got to clean that. The bones gave him abscessed intestines... I got to clean up after THAT too.

This time I just had to make them puke then search it for the oatmeal. The husband hosed the patio and we were done. We suspect Shadow got the soap off her kennel, and Rainy ate the oatmeal. I moved stuff around on my poor crowded soaping shelf and moved the soaps onto that.

Oh yeah, hate taking care of parvo puppies. Poor things, if only people were smart and got their dogs immunized! Was torturous taking care of dozens of half dead puppies and praying that by some miracle they'd pull through.

Some time back I had given a friend several bars. Her dog (a mastiff - tall enough to reach the soap on the dining table!) had himself a nice little snack. She honestly couldn't figure out where her soap was until the dog got sick. But no lasting effects.

The funny thing was some time after that, I gave her more soap, which she immediately put on the top shelf in her bedroom closet. She told me she found the silly dog sitting in front of the closet with his nose pointed at that top shelf.

He knew where his new favorite snack was!
