Teach Soap

What in the world did I do wrong? I'm fairly new to soapmaking and I thought I'd try my hand at reabatching soap.

I added the soap to a crockpot with a very small amount of water to it, closed it, came back to check awhile later, the liquid was covering the soap in the pot I added CP and M&P pieces. I think that might be the last time I try that.

You can't combine MP and CP in a rebatch.

From what I understand of rebatch, you use fresh shredded CP and add a little liquid or oil to moisten the CP shreds with optional additives (like ground oatmeal or loofah). Usually you rebatch if your CP soap is lye heavy and need to add the additional oils for the lye to "process", don't want to use lye directly or want to use delicate ingredients or FOs/EOs that don't tolerate CP well.

M&P base is high in glycerin so if you melt it together with CP shreds plus water you would get a slightly "soupy" result. I have seen soaps that are a mix of M&P and CP but the soaper who sells them did it on purpose and developed her own special recipe. Her "blended creme" soaps are actually quite nice - the hardness & lather of CP soaps with the properties of M&P to handle delicate scents and pour in high detailed molds.

I do a rebatch if my FO caused severe ricing or some other problem, or if I really don't like the way a soap turned out. So far I haven't had a lye heavy batch and I'm hoping I never will!

BrambleBerry sells CP rebatch base. It's not lye heavy. It's for people that prefer not to be a round lye, have small kids or pets around.

Thank you for the information EVERYONE. Really embarrased but I did learn, I would post a picture and I'm sure I'll get a grimance or two, or three, but right now I'm trying to figure out what to do with this mess.
