Teach Soap

I have heard you should not use more than 15% in a recipe many times in different places, than I also have seen recipes online that use 35%. I understand it is supposed to make DOS more likely.

Anyway, before I knew you shouldnt use it at a high rate, I made a whipped soap using it at 40% of the recipe along with 20% each of coconut and palm kernal for the hard oils.

5% castor
and either rice bran or olive oil for the remaining 15%. It was run thru soapcalc at the default 5%superfat and 38%water.

Both batches turned out nicely. They are about a month old, so I am not sure if they will be drying with all the coconut and palm kernal, but I will be finding out shortly. The question is, neither has developed DOS yet, when would it do that? Is it something that would have happened already, or is it something I should be looking for in a few months?

I have not had any DOS with Hydrogenized Soybean oil. I have, however, had DOS problems with canola, hemp seed and sunflower oil.

That looks fine to me. Just make sure that your olive oil is not adultarated with another oil.
