Teach Soap

I just placed a small BB order, but it has some nice new "toys"! I got 1 pound each of mowrah butter and pistachio butter, and some 10X orange EO. Looking forward to "playing" with them!

Have any of you used these butters? Do they add any/much colour to the batter? I know my mango butter is quite yellow, but adds no colour to the batter. Curious about my new ones

Good for you! I would use those butters either in a lotion bar or a balm. I use 10X orange and it does add color to CP soap.

I've been considering doing a lotion bar, but I'm a little scared! Need to nail a good recipe and get the ingredients I guess! So many VERY different recipes out there!

Lotion bars are easy. There's quite a bit of wiggle room, depending on how hard a bar you want, but you can do approximately 1/3 beeswax, 1/3 soft oil, 1/3 hard butter to start with. That gives a pretty firm bar. For the hard butter, I've used all cocoa, or half cocoa butter half shea, for instance. Do a small batch, like 3 oz, enough for 1 or two molds, and see how you like the consistency. You can always remelt and adjust until you find the feel you like.

I tried that recipe on SoapQueen, and I'll warn you that it was way too soft for me. Even in a tube, it was more smear than glide. YMMV!

If you want local bee products, is a list of beekeepers by state/province where you can buy honey (and where you can buy honey, you can usually pick up a few pounds of beeswax).

Yeah, it seemed very low to me. I make balms at 20%, so less than that, to me, was too soft.

Got my order today... unfortunately it came in a mowrah infused cardboard box stuffed with mowrah covered form peanuts. The butter melted on its trip and leaked everywhere! Everything is coated with it except, miraculously, my book on milk soap! The pistachio butter is fine, still decently solid even!
