when i made my oatmeal honey soap i used real honey (made it sorta soft).
would my soap turn out better if i used the honey soap base and the oatmeal base.

I was reading different soap recipes and a few of them said to do so much of goats milk or white base with so much of the clear base, Im wondering if anyone does this or if they come out good??

Yeah, I used honey one time and eventhough I used only 1 teaspoon plus 2 teaspoons (=1 tablespoon additives/lb) ground oatmeal to my goatsmilk base, the soap was softer than usual. That's why I like to mix 2 different bases together sometimes instead - I get the full benefit of honey and milk without losing any lather or hardness. Using a mix of the goatsmilk base 2:1 or 1:1 honey base also made the soap less opaque so it looked like this (like a milky looking Neutrogena facial bar) . Not using any scent or color makes it less irritating for facial use.

You're welcome. Yes, that's been my experience too, that's why I suggest mixing the 2 different bases together to see how you like it and testing it before selling. I haven't tried an oatmeal base, just the goatsmilk and honey bases together and (optional) adding some exfoliants (the ground oatmeal, ground loofah or jojoba beads), so can't tell you how an oatmeal and honey base mix would come out. Let us know how it turns out for you.

Brambleberry also sells wonderful aloe, shea and hemp M&P bases which are included in the soap sampler so there are numerous combos or plain type soaps you could make. Also available from BB separately are their olive oil & shaving M&P bases - the olive oil base has 20% olive oil & is great as is (gentle moisturizing lather) although it has that distinctive OO smell and the shaving base (lots of long-lasting lather) makes a wonderful (unisex) shaving soap with some clay added for slip.

This is a great forum and everyone here is very helpful in making suggestions or sharing experiences. The forum owner, Anne-Marie Faiola, or Soap Queen, and the moderators like Soapbuddy are awesome resources! :)

Just google cosmetic clays or most suppliers offer a short description of the different clays they offer like this . Clay is often used in facial masks, soaps as a colorant or to increase slippage during shaving to name a few. Each clay is a different color and actually has different uses like some are okay for sensitive or mature skin while others are best used for oily skin only. Remember to label your soaps properly with each ingredient and appropriate warnings. Like honey should be used cautiously by infants, immunocompromised individuals or anyone with honey allergies (especially if the honey you use is unpasteurized). I think we've discussed honey here on the forum a lot in the past, just use the search function.
