Hello Everyone! Just wanted to know if anybody had a shea butter soap recipe they might like to share. I just bought some shea from BB and am dying to try it out. I would prefer if the recipes did not contain any tallow, and that is why I decided not to use the one listed on Teach Soap. Also, I do wonder if I could get this bar to be pretty hard. I just bought sodium lactate, so can you share some advice for using that? Thanks so much in advance! :D

Call me confused, but you are already selling soaps yet you are asking for a basic recipe? I would experiment with the recipe that you already use first. Add some shea butter to it and take good notes. The search feature is your friend. :)

I know Ginger! Isn't it funny? But seriously, I have been making soap for 2 years now and have NEVER used shea in any of my recipes! I guess I'm going to have to experiment a bit. I just thought there might be a recipe that someone already knew to be fool proof! :)

If someone had a "fool proof" recipe, they wouldn't be sharing it. It takes time, effort and money to perfect your soap recipe. It doesn't then just get handed out to someone else for them to skip the hard work. :?

Which oils are you using now and how much are you superfatting? Are you gelling or not gelling? Adding shea butter will most likely change your trace time and possibly the final feel of the soap. What do you hope to achieve by adding shea butter? Harder bar? More conditioning? Label appeal?

Wow.

Looking at your recipe, maybe you could add 5% of shea butter and subtract 5% from one of the other oils (but, as your probably would, run through a lye calc). That 35% coconut oil might be why you feel it's a bit drying, but if the customers like it - then keep making what they want! Granted, I'm not a pro, but almost all of the soaps I make have shea and/or cocoa butter to them.

If you think it's too drying, you can just drop some of the coconut oil and sub in some shea butter.
