Teach Soap

I really want to make this I have a 12in long 3in diameter round tube mold ordered. Now theoretically with MP or CP how much soap do you all think this takes? It doesnt say in the directions how much is needed, so I just kinda want I guess a more seasoned persons opinion before I atempt it. Oh and I think for the first time for sure it will be MP.

Enjoy trying to cut it! I nearly broke my wrist trying to cut my loofa loaf.

You need a simple mathematical formula! To find the volume of the cylinder:

V = πr2h (thats pi x r squared; the forum doesn't support greek letters!)
where:
π is Pi, approximately 3.142
r is the radius of the circular end of the cylinder (half the distance across the opening, measure and divide by 2)
h height of the cylinder

Take V and multiply by .39. This will give you the volume of oils you need, in ounces. Plug that into a calculator and find out how much lye and water. My experience is that this formula makes slightly too much soap for the cylinder because we add scents and colours etc, so keep a small container handy for the rest!

Oh, let me do the math for you!

V = 3.14(1.5^2)(12)
v=3.14(2.25)(12)
v=(7.065)(12)
v=84.78 square inches!

I showed the math so folks could see it in action

Soooo oz oils =(84.78)(0.39)
=33.06 oz of oils for your mold!

So when you use your soap calculator put in an oil total weight of 33oz!

I can tell you a MUCH easier way to work out how much soap you'll need. Put your empty mould on the scales and then turn the scales on. Fill your mould with water. The weight on the scales is how much (give or take a smidge) base you will need to fill your mould
