Teach Soap

Hi, I made a batch of my regular CP recipe and used 2oz of a fragrance oil that I purchased about 9months ago. I could see the FO had yellowed in the plastic bottle but I thought it would still be good. I usually put my FO in my oils just before mixing in the lye solution. I poured both at 105 degrees and stirred with a spoon gently for about 15seconds when I noticed the color changed in an instant to a deep yellowish color (I didn't add any color)......then it seized.

After some thought I concluded that it must have been the older FO. Does anyone have experience with this? Do FOs go bad in less than a year? Can they cause seizing?

Where did you purchase the fragrance oil? Did the vendor indicate that it was soap safe? I presume you haven't used this fragrance before? If it was stored in a HDPE bottle, the fragrance most likely leached out the plastic. For longer term storage, it's best to store in PET, PETE plastic or glass.

The FO was from Oregon trails (cool mountain lake). I've used it before and actually reordered it....that is when I noticed how yellow it was.
