Teach Soap

Hi All!

I'm brand new to soap making. I just got my first ingredients in and am planning to play this weekend.

So my questions is about things from my garden. I have lots of perinnials in my yard... peppermint, sweet mint, lemon balm, sage, thyme, roses, etc. I would like to use some of these in my mp soaps eventually.

I assume I should dry them first...

I realize they will probably turn brown...

Any suggestions on how to use them?

Infused in oil & add just a bit of that oil to your soap I think would be the best way so that you don't have brown yuckies suspended throughout your soap.

Yes, you must dry them first, otherwise they'll turn moldy and spoil your soap.

When they're dried you can use them but they won't impart as much fragrance as you might think, and they will turn brown. To get the most fragrance out of them do what Genny suggested and use them in warm oil to infuse, and then strain (throw out the herbs), and use the oil in your soap.

I would infuse them as well. Be aware that the more oil you add to your MP base, the less lather it will have and it can become soft.

How about if I use them in other products like lotion bars and such? I like the idea of a naturally peppermint lotion bar. Hmmmmm I'll have to experiment.
