From my research so far, it looks like the majority of people prefer their flavored lip balms to be sweetened.

I know of a couple of vendors (Brambleberry being one of them) who sell lip balm sweeteners, and BB's is actually described as "sweetening oil".

Since lip balms seem to be all waxes/oils/butters, would I be correct in thinking the sweetening oil would be the way to go?

I don't know what the composition of liquid Stevia is - is it water or oil based? And if it's water-based, how would you incorporate that into a lip balm???

(I told you I'd be asking lots of questions! )

I have tried liquid stevia, does not work, just sank to the bottom and didn't incorporate b/c it is soluble in water but I guess not oil.
I tried a lip balm sweetner but it didn't work well either, similar effect, where it seemed to ball up in little droplets. I am not sure why that one didn't work, I used alot, mixed until the little droplets were so small they looked "dissolved" but no taste in lip balm.
There is a stevia infused into coconut oil that I have heard of, but then I gave up sweetening balms for now. Eventually would like to make a vanilla frosting flavored balm with taste. Yum.

If you find something that works well let me know =)

Stevia is water based. Lip balms are not. I would go with BrambleBerry's oil base sweetener.

Really? They want them sweetened? Were you polling people who make lip balms (like those here on the forum) or were these "joe average" consumer?

I never sweeten mine, and lip balm is my biggest seller by a mile... My customers never seem to notice that they don't "taste" sweet.

My customers prefer them sweetened. I sweeten mine lightly to enhance the flavor.

Most of my customers prefer them unsweetened, too. I wonder if it's a regional thing?

I also found that Elements carries the Stevia in coconut oil, so I may get some of both to see which I like better.
