I don't understand why most people here refer to things like "lotion bars" - to me that is an oxymoron.
"Lotion" for me, means only one thing: a clear liquid.
I.E. lotion (a clear liquid) -> creams (an emulsion) -> butters ( a mix of lipids possibly containing water) -> bars (a solid)

It is a misnomer, but many people know what a lotion bar in the US is. It's also called solid lotion.
In the US, a lotion is water based liquid, emulsifier, oils/butters and a preservative. Cream is a thicker version of lotion.

A lotion bar could easily be called a body balm or a moisturizing bar. I think Lush Cosmetics sells one called a massage bar that is about the same as a "lotion bar".
I only call it that b/c I have heard it called that and people know what I'm talking about =)
I think "body balm" is more appropriate, b/c it is about the same as a lip balm but bigger.
