Of safflower's qualities as a soaping oil?

I'm thinking it really isn't the best to use.

And I promise to tell why I'm asking :D - this isn't for a soap I'm making.

I don't use it, so I'm not much help.

I've never used it--it has a short shelf life, so I'd worry about rancidity. But it's supposed to be mild.

I use it in many of my recipes...but in a small percentage. I think of it as a gentle soaping oil (with similar properties to olive but lighter).

Checked in my notes, it is 70-80% linoleic fatty acid. This would mean it has the property of conditioning. Should be similar to grapeseed oil. I have never tried safflower oil but I do use grapeseed oil and like the results. Do you know if it is expensive?

It is not expensive - I usually pick up a bottle each of safflower & sunflower oils whenever I go to Whole Foods...less expensive than oilive oil which is part of the reason why I add it to my recipes (since I use A LOt of olive oil).

I will have to check WM. We do not have a whole foods in this town. My next try is sunflower oil. I am finding that I love to experiment! So I will add this to my list. Are you going to give it a go? If so I would be interested in how it turns out.

If I was you, I woudn't say anything because then she will think you're her competition. Concentrate on your business and make it the best that you can; for you and your customers. If her soap feels dry on your hands, it will most likely feel just as dry on the rest of you.

You mentioned the first thing that I get commented on when I gift a bar of my soap (I do not sell). Thats the smell. It never seems to matter what the packaging is, what oils I have used, or the colors\swirls - they all just smell it and state their opinion. When I first started buying soap (before I learnt how to make it), I would do the same thing.... smell and maybe color would come into consideration. I did at one point look for the goats milk but it was never a deal breaker if it was not in the bar.
So make your booth as invitiing as possible... make sure your soaps smell good and then as the consumers use them they will come back for more. Do you have a brochure to hand out extolling the virtures of your soap. I wonder if this would be a good idea as you seem to have fairly heavy competition at this craft show.
