I am looking for a lavender handcream recipe or something similar. I would like to make some gift boxes up with my homemade products that I am going to make and sell them on my website later down the track

Whatever you decide to make, please make sure that you follow safety and sanitizing protocols and don't use recycled bottles (unless it's just for yourself). I don't use aloe gel as the one from my store has polymers. I prefer pure aloe juice from the health food store. You will need an accurate scale for the preservative. Use too little and it can grow nasties; use too much and it can be irritating.

Here's a thought....why not make lotion bars instead? That way you won't need water, nor a preservative.

I just thought of something...since you are in the EU, are the rules and regs different in your country? Do you need to have your lotion or cream tested before you are allowed to sell? Do you need to have your formula registered?

Any of our AU members willing to chime in on this one?

I found a simple hand cream recipe at http://homemadebathproducts.blogspot.co ... cream.html that I am going to try. I will be using it for myself and will be giving out as presents. I never recycle bottles. I will be ordering some from a supplier for these.

I would hold off selling any lip balm or any hand creams til you have done lots of testing. Teach Soap forum has an amazing amount of info, so that's where I would start your search.

Creams are o/w emulsions. (oil in water). Before you start making creams, I suggest you read up on how o/w emulsions work because that is the heart of it all. Even small changes can make a big difference. I checked that link to a "cream" and it was laughable, frankly. As soapbuddy pointed out, anyone that talks about quantities in any way except accurate weight, likely doesn't know what they are doing. You need a scale accurate to 0.1g for this work. (Cheap enough on EBay)

There is a company called four seasons natural soaps, no not me but I get that a lot so I checked them out and they claim to use a lot of aloe juice and gel and claim they do not use preservatives? I stopped messing with things like liquid lotions. Good luck and enjoy.

I found a recipe that has water in it and I am going to try it out to see how it turns out, it also has vitamin e oil in it. Can't wait to try this recipe out and hopefully if it turns out ok and when it has been tested I might be able to sell it
