I haven't tried it yet, but I bought some KOH for liquid soap. Seems from the different posts on here that the % of SF for liquid soap is lower than that of regular CP soap. Am I assuming this correctly? Or is that just what some do? I have read through the one book about liquid soaps(not real in depth-was library book and had to return in-it's on my wish list) Anyway...what is the significance for a lower SF in the liquid soap vs CP?

The lower the superfat, the better chance that the liquid soap will come out clear.

Some people that make liquid soap will actually make the soap lye heavy and then adjust the pH using borax. I've made a couple of batches at 2% SF that have turned out pretty nice. I'm going to try a 3-4% SF to use as a body wash/shampoo.

Thanks!! So if I don't care if it is clear, I can use the same %SF as my CP? and then is there the need for borax?

I don't use borax in my liquid soap at all. Try your regular superfat and see how you like it. Different oils play differently in liquid soap. Make sure you run it through a liquid soap calc.

I have not tried liquid soap -yet. It is on my to do list. I am waiting until I can get the book and do some reading first. But this thread makes me want to ask: bar soap gives a bi-product of glycerin. If potassium hydroxide is used is glycerin not a by-product of that?
