Teach Soap

I've been lurking for quite some time, and finally got the courage to post. The first soap forum I joined (not this one!) was less than hospitable, but after reading so many of your posts I get the sense that you're a very welcoming and encouraging bunch.

I'm a new soap maker. I've been reading and researching like crazy for about 2 months. As part of my research I watched EVERY Soap Queen video on YouTube. I've read Everything Soapmaking cover to cover. And I've browsed through at least 20 other books on soap making. I've become kind of obsessed! My husband says, "If I have to hear one more word about soap!..." I've even got my kids saying things like, "Let's make soap!"

Ok, funny story: My brother came over to visit and he and my girls (who are just short of their 5th birthday) were playing around with some scrabble tiles. My bro asked, "What words can you spell?". One of my girls said, "Oil!" My bro laughed and said, "Oh really? Why would you need to learn that word?" My daughter said, "Because, you need oil to make soap!" What can I say, I'm startin' her early!

Anyway, I'm so glad to be here, and I hope to get to know all of you better over the coming months.

Welcome!! I think I know the other forum you're talking about - sounds like we had similar experiences hehe. I love it here! And oh how does it warm my soul to see someone taking the time to read and research!! I'm sure your soaps will turn out fantastic!

It's not that I was treated poorly at the other forum, because I wasn't. But the general atmosphere of the board was one of discouragement rather than encouragement. It was like they were saying (without actually saying it) "Oh great, another new soap maker... You trying to peddle your wares to our customers, or what?"
