Teach Soap

I can't seem to get my lotion bars the consistency I want. They are very hard, which I probably need it my hot climate, but they are not smooth and silky to apply. They work fine if I hold them in my hand to warm them up but they feel grainy or gritty or not smooth. I heard to not get the shea butter too hot or it will get grainy so I try to not do that. Maybe I should try melting that hard beeswax in a pot in water like when making candles.

Shea butter 30%
cocoa butter 30%
lanolin 10%
pistachio butter 10%
beeswax 20%
almond oil 12 ml
This is about a 454 gram batch

Shea butter always go grainy on me. I use mango butter instead.

You're not melting the beeswax? I would have thought that would be essential.

I melt my beeswax in the microwave (short bursts) and then add my butters (cocoa and shea) and reheat until they are fully melted, then I add my warmed liquid oil. Sometimes I may need to nuke for another 5-10 seconds before pouring if it starts to cool too much. So far, I haven't had any problem with the bars being grainy.
