Firstly (excuse my lack of knowledge) what is the difference between melt & pour and cold press?
To do melt and pour what equipment is a must?
what are some easy experiments for me?

I'm not sure what cold press is. Do you mean cold process? If so, with cold process you are making the soap completely from scratch. You are choosing what oils/butters to put into it. Where as with Melt and Pour, the soap is already made, but you get to melt it , add the fragrance, color and some people add other godies to it.

For your other questions, I'm going to share this link http://teachsoap.com/mp.html There's also some recipes on the left hand side for mp.

First easy experiments are just experimenting with different colors and different scents.

Good luck & feel free to ask more questions :)

I hope this doesn't come off as rude, as I don't intend it to be that way, but there is SO much information both on this forum, on the front page of this site, on the internet in general, in soaping books, on the Brambleberry website, on Ann-Marie's blog, her ezines, SoapyLove's ezines, etc. It really is all out there for you to learn from if you just make the effort to look. Google terms like 'difference between melt and pour and cold process' will answer those questions, etc.

I'm no expert. I'm not that long off a 'newbie' myself. However being serious about wanting to make soap, I took the time to research, learn, read, etc. I own 5 soaping books and read those, I watched hours upon hours of YouTube videos, read this forum and others etc.

You will actually learn more, and retain more information if you seek it out. Soaping is fun, no double about it, but there's also risks involved for yourself and for anyone using your creations - lye safety, essential oil and fragrant oil maximum uses, etc. It really is important to do your homework and learn...

If it takes you a long time to load up pages here, I suggest that you go to your local library and borrow some soapmaking books. There is a big difference between cold process and melt n' Pour. One is already saponified, the other you will need lye.

ClabelDesigns, welcome to the wonderful world of soap making! When you get better internet access, you are going to be in for a real treat (and possibly addiction). Just dig in and read, read, read. Be sure to use the "search" feature on this forum (or any others) because all of your questions will have already been asked and that way you won't have to wait for an answer. That is where I have learned about 90% of everything I know. Can you get to YouTube on your phone? If so, that'll be a fun place to start where you can actually see the process. I make Cold Process (abbreviation is CP) and I love it! It's a fun and rewarding hobby.

Good luck and have lots of bubbly fun!
