Teach Soap

HI All,
I have calculated my costs per unit of soap that I make and wrap...

Soap .80 cents a bar (varies with recipe)
Wrapping .16 cents per bar (this took a lot of research )

Total Cost for me to make each bar without labor .86 cents

I sell wholesale for $2.50 a bar for large orders, and $4.00 in the farm stand and at craft shows.

How much is your unit cost...or should we let this secret out??

Depending on recipe and/or fragrance oils I use, my typical bars with packaging and labeling costs about 63 cents to make. Of course this doesn't account for electricity to melt the oils or hot water/detergent that I use for cleanup afterwards. Ones I make with goat's milk cost about 10 cents/bar more.

I don't have a website and only sell at the farmers market sometimes or during craft fairs. I sell for $1/oz with my standard bar weighing 3.5 oz which I sell for $3.50. Specialty bars with "designer" shapes I sell for $5 each.

I'll make special orders with no minimums just because I like to make soap. I draw the line though if somebody only wants 3 bars but each of them are something I don't usually make.
