Teach Soap

I want to try this recipe today. Can I get some help triple checking the ingredients. For some reason I have had a unsuccessful last 2 batches.


4 oz wt Coconut Oil
4 oz wt Palm Oil
4 oz wt Palm Kernel Oil
2 oz wt Shea Butter
2 oz wt Sunflower Oil
2.29 oz Sodium Hydroxide
6 oz Distilled Water

FO? 1 tsp

I also want to add oatmeal for a little texture.

I ran your recipe through soapcalc and it looks ok. Your superfat is about 9.5% based on your lye amount. Is that the SF% you wanted? FO can be .5 - .75 oz PPO depending on how strong you want it.

The last soap batch I "attempted" was about a little more than a week ago. (I still have the soap in the tray). I tried using color and added too much titanium dioxide. The lye-water ended up runny and the soap gelled. However, it has not gotten much more firmer than that. I need to throw it out or rebatch....I guess I have been to skeptical at the rebatch process.

The one before that had too much lye so I had to toss the whole batch out.

At this point I just want to make a successful batch of soap without loosing more product

The SF % is not of great concern. I just found that recipe and wanted to try it in a small batch. If you have a recommendation please send me way

Actually I thought I had Palm Kernel Oil and only have (PALM)

So, that recipe I found would not work....

I would sub olive for the sunflower oil. Since this is a small recipe, I would convert it to grams for better accuracy. If you only have palm, just recalculate the recipe with it. The higher the superfat, the higher unsaponified oils there are. That could be why your soap is still soft. Try 7% superfat instead.
