Teach Soap

I was making a batch of soap last night that I wanted to try the super swirly swirls with, so decided to use the whisk instead of the stick blender to mix the batter. It got to the opaque stage, so I decided to pour, but the soap came out with these spots, and I'm not sure what they are...

I noticed when trying to swirl, the mixture was too watery like. The colours just blended. I worried that perhaps it hadn't emulsified, but the soap hardened, came out of the mold ok and even cut up ok. Just has these spots.

Not the white spots, but the clear like spots?









Is this soap useable? I licked a few different bars, no zap. Even finding the spottiest section and licking produced no zaps.

It's possible those are stearic acid spots from one of your soapmaking oils. At what temp did you combine your oils and lye? If you used palm oil is it hydrogenated or did you melt it and stirred it well before using the rest of the you ingredients?

No Palm. Ingredients were:

Olive 275 gr 37.8%
Coconut 190 gr 26.1%
Lard 122 gr 16.8%
Castor 32 gr 4.4%
Shea butter 101 gr 13.9%
Beeswax 7 gr 1.0%

Can't remember temps, but there's a chance they were hotter than I normally do with these as I have noticed my beeswax starting to go solid again with the last couple of batches...

My bet it's on stearic spots. If there were any little bubbles inside the soap they wouldn't be as light in color. Next time take a temp to give you a better idea on what it might be.
