Hello - well I decided to do some experimenting tonight. I made a milk soap for the first time - used powdered milk, reconstituted with distilled water and then frozen. Added my lye slowly and it immediately turned dark orange and got a little curdly. I cooled it pretty quickly and decided to go ahead and soap anyway. Once I added it to my oils and got the stick blender going, it smoothed out nicely (but got pretty dark). It poured fine and smells fine (patchouli & sweet orange EO). What do you think? Will it be ok??

Oh and I also decided to try that cool charcoal pencil line on this (figured what did I have to lose since this batch might be toast anyway)...and wow I wish I had read some advice on that one...POOOF big cloud of charcoal in my kitchen...everything is now covered in a light dusting of black charcoal... Thinking I was not ready for so much experimentation!! haha - but it was fun!

Sounds like it will still be ok. For powdered milk, you can add it to your cooled off, melted oils, then add your lye water.

I have had that happen with liquid goats milk and it turned out fine. If I am going for a golden orange color I will do that on purpose. I now use mostly powered milk into my oils before adding the lye water. I have been wondering about overheating with the powdered milk, as it seems that I have been getting more or near more of that. Will have to do some experimenting to decide if this is true or not.

I used cocoa powder for the line in my soap, looks almost black and is probably easier to use than the charcoal hehe

Hi Linda, Sorry about the slow answer... I am soaking up some sun in Mexico.... I use anywhere from 1/2 to 1 scoop PPO. I switched because it was so much easier to have on hand. Seems as if our freezer is always full. I think it would be a great experiment after I get back.
