Here are some pictures what I can "Spa Day". It is my modified version of the Soap Queens "Pretty in Pink". I changed the recipe to use less salt, added some castor oil to the recipe and changed out lab colors for mica. It was second attempt at swirling. I did two layers of the Bordeaux Mica swirl but for some reason it only looks like one layer and a lot of the color was pushed out to the sides. I thought I was pouring slow enough but obviously not :)

Overall, I am excited about the bar....I love it and have received many compliments and many requests for more :) Now if I can only get my swirling technique improved!

Good job Carrie. Swirling can frustrate many a soap maker. Keep trying and you will develop your own style.

Thanks!

I just tried a swirl in the pot, thought I might have better luck...but I don't think I had enough contrast, we shall see when I cut it tomorrow.

So I learned that muskoka boathouse turns your soap NEON yellow! My green is actually a nice avocado but my "blue" is a darker green. This hopefully will have a cocoa powder pencil line in it
Edit: The soap isn't neon like it appears to be in the picture! Looks a little violent! hehe

Your soap still looks pretty, Debbie! It looks kinda purplish to me ...

Very nice salt spa soap, carrie! The swirl is nice.

Can't wait to see the cut bars, Hestey! I want to try a pencil line soon, too. The thread about it here got me inspired! :)

 Yeah the room is a little dark and the camera flash made it look a little like toxic waste! LOL Hopefully it turns out alright!

Carrie: Your salt soap looks lovely! I made my first salt soap just a couple nights ago, but used individual molds, since I was too scared about timing and cutting. You did great! :D

Hestey: When I first saw the color I thought "looks like a good 'wake up in the morning' color." Looking forward to seeing the finished bars. :D

Neither of these batches went as planned. The stickblender spewed air bubbles like crazy. Things accelerated on me (may have been the castor oil and the EOs). Not a total loss since I like the scents and if the tester bits are to be trusted, they'll cure up to be perfectly usable soap.

Scent: Anise + Cedarwood + Cinnamon Leaf EOs
Colorants: Titanium Dioxide, Ultramarine Blue, Purple (Ultramarine Blue + Red Oxide)
Swirl/Pour: Faux Funnel Pour (errr, well it was supposed to be)

Definitely moved fast on me. The first set of pours looked like they would go ok, then all of a sudden things got gloopy, especially the blue. Whacked things in the mold as quick as I could. I'm liking the scent and I'm pretty happy with the tone of the colors.

Scent: Basically a little bit of all my FOs and EOs, so citrusy woodsy spicey herbally
Colorants: Titanium Dioxide, Black Oxide, Teal (Ultramarine Blue + Chromium Oxide Ultra Green), Orange (Yellow Oxide + Red Oxide), Chromium Oxide Ultra Green, Pinkish Purple (Red Oxide + Ultramarine Blue)
Swirl/Pour: Was suppose to try a Drop Pour, but that didn't happen

Holy gloopy mess part 2! Was scooping this into the mold as if the batters were mashed potatoes (though thankfully not as grainy). Tried to run a chopstick through it just to flatten our the layers, but no go. Lots of air pockets, even though I bang the mold on the counter.

The scent, however, is divine! And this was a redo of the recipe I had liked, but that was too soft/sticky (the green spoon swirl - lime mint FO batch). Added some salt and sugar, and used a different mold since I noticed that mold had made another soft loaf. Maybe it was a combination of the batter consistency, salt/sugar and the mold, but this loaf was easy to unmold and cut. May still be able to use my favorite version of the recipe!

I think the soap gremlins had their fun with me and have decided I had enough of their shenanigans for now. Tuesday night I made my first salt bars and that went smoothly, and last night my first castile, which I'm excited to unmold and cut. :D

like your choice of colors. Love the tops of the blue and brown. Darn gremlins! I made two batches tonight and could not get the texture I wanted so I just gave up.... its been a hetic week for me and these needed to get done. I must say you do make alot of soap.

Giantolive they both look really good. the second one looks like lips with tongue in the middle. You could name it sweet talk or something.
