Teach Soap

I had a bad time with the first effort. I tried with water and I didn't grate the soap, just cut it up. It worked eventually but it was messy and wasteful.
Having just had a soapmaking book given to me, I was interested to see that the author recommends using full cream milk to help melt the grated soap. So, I did this in a double boiler and inside 30 minutes I had a nice, pourable, (but fairly thick) pan of soap. Very, very different to my first experience. Worth a try if you're going this route.

If you add a lot of liquid to rebatch, you might end up with a "shrunken head" syndrome as the liquid evaporates and mishaped bars.

It's tricky, isn't it? Better to let the whole 'log' dry out a bit before cutting?

It is tricky. One of the reasons why I no longer rebatch.

When I rebatch, I use very little (if any) added water. Generally, the fresher your soap is when you rebatch, the less extra liquid you'll need.
