Teach Soap

My gelled soap was significantly more firm than my non-gelled soap. Think I will do the salt thing for non-gelled batches.

Here's a hint - next time, if you put herbs or any form of botanicals on the top, turn the soap upside down before you cut it. Then the bits won't be dragged through your soap.

I liked your colors and your swirls.

Maybe a water discount might be helpful to get your soap to firm up more quickly. I generally use twice as much water as lye and my soap is ready much faster than when I used full water. Even when I don't gel, I can unmold cleanly within a day or two.

I generally use the silicone loaf molds like the one you used for your last batch.

Don't give up. I think you're on the right track.

Whooo, I have read this whole thread without exhaling ! Rivetting stuff! I havent yet made my first bar of soap and now am terrified
What is gelling and how does it matter?How do you do it / stop it?
Why do you freeze or heat soap once its in the mould?
When soap is this soft could you not just leave it tucked away in a box until it hardens?
I live in a cold house in a cold place - what does this mean with regard to soaps I might (!!) make?
Is there anything useful that can be done with the spoiled soap?
I like asking questions. Maybe you noticed ! Will I take these questions elsewhere in the forum or is it ok to ask here?
