Teach Soap

I was wondering how much silk powder folks add to their lye water. I make around 2.5 pound batches (900g of oils).

It is literally silk that has been made into a powder (not 100% sure how, I imagine either some sort of grinding mill or digestive chemical). You mix it in the lye solution so that the fibres dissolve. I think Irena uses it.

Approx. 1/8 to 1/4 tsp for that size batch.

I tried once getting some raw silk to add to the lye water. Some of it dissolved, some did not. Still have not tried the liquid silk or the powdered silk. May have to add that to my want list.

Sometimes A Mistake is so much fun, You just have to do it again!

If you roll the raw silk into tight little balls and cut off whisker size lengths with sharp sizzors it will work in your lye water. I put the silk into the water, pour the lye over and stir until clear. Yes a loooonnggg time!
